Performance One’s roots are in High School and College Wrestling. Coach Micela was a former College Wrestler at Rutgers University and Arizona State University. He understands the demands placed on a High School and College Wrestler more so then your average Strength and Conditioning Coach. Currently we are training wrestlers from Queen Creek HS, Highland HS, Basha HS, Desert Ridge HS, and Arizona State University. This is the time to get ready for the season. Performance One wrestlers train 3-4 days a week in a Wrestling Specific Strength and Conditioning Program.

Last season Performance One Athlete Wesley Moore of Queen Creek High School won the State Championships in the 189 lb weight class. Physically dominating his competition during the year and all the way through the State Championships. This season Wesley will take his skills to Arizona State University. Wesley has trained with Joe Micela since his Freshman year of High School and he has transformed Wesley into a well conditioned athlete.

Wrestling takes a tremendous amount of physical strength, power, and muscular endurance. Performance One emphasizes these skills by using movements that develop Position Specific Strength & Power, Athletic Conditioning, and Functional Flexibility for sport. Don’t wast your training time on programs that don’t produce results. Performance One has one goal in mind develop the strongest most explosive athletes period. Call Coach Micela if you have more questions. 480-813-5477

Performance One Athlete Lauren Haeger Won the Gold Medal in softball for Team USA in Bogota, Colombia in July. Lauren, a senior at Deer Valley High School was one of the youngest pitchers on the US Team. Already committed to the University of Florida. Lauren started training with Coach Joe Micela six months ago to develop more power with her pitching and to have more pop in her bat. Coach Micela has developed a program that utilizes the Olympic Lifts, Snatch and Clean & Jerk, along with Assistance Exercises that help balance out any imbalance that Lauren might have. She trains twice a week for about an hour and a half. Lauren has increased her Pitching speed 63 to 65+ mph. She led her team and the state in home runs this year and has her school record for total home runs. We wish Lauren continued success with her training going into this Senior Season.

Performance One Athlete Wesley Moore will wrestle this fall at Arizona State University after coming of a State Championship title in the 189 lb weight class for Queen Creek High School in Queen Creek, Arizona. Wesley improved his strength, speed, and power while training under the guidance of Coach Joe Micela. “Wesley is one of the most powerful High School Wrestlers that I have ever trained”, commented Coach Micela. Wesley has clean and jerked 130 kilos (286 lbs) in recent weeks and can back squat 170 kilos (374 lbs) for a triple. He has increased his body weight this off season from 190 to 202 lbs to bulk up for the 197 lb weight class in college. “Right now we are making the transition from off season training into preseason training”, Coach Micela said. Wesley will go through “Hell Week” with the Arizona State Wrestling Team starting on September 1st. Hell Week is a week long high intensity conditioning phase the team uses to weed-out the weak and develop the strong. Wesley’s training at Performance One has developed him into one of ASU’s Top incoming Freshman for the 2010-2111 Season. Good Luck Wes! Coach Micela was a former Wrestler at Rutgers University in New Jersey and Arizona State University. He has helped many top Arizona Wrestlers with all their Strength and Conditioning needs.

After a 7 hour bus ride from Guatemala to El Salvador. A 3 hour delay flying into Miami due to storms. A mechanical issue with our plan leaving Miami to Chicago. To two missed connections in Chicago. I’m finally home and it only two three days of traveling. It is needless to say that this trip will go down as one of kind.

Nothing made me more happy then to see my wife and son at the airport when arrived. I love traveling and coaching the sport of Weightlifting but nothing means more to me then spending time with my family. I love you Babe.

To all the Women’s Team Members I want to congratulate you on a job well done. We had many great performances. As a Team we moved up two positions from last year from 9th to 7th along with several Personal Record Performances. Sarah Robles highlighted the trip wining the Silver Medal in the 75+ kilo class. Sarah was our highest female placer. Other athletes such as Erin Wallace of Shreveport, LA went six for six and three new Personal Records. As the Head Women’s Coach I want to say it was an honor and a priveledge to coach all of the girls. I would also like to thank Kyle Pierce (Head Men’s Coach), Bob Morris (Assistant Coach), and Glen Pendlay (Team Leader) for all their hard work during this unique competition. I would like to especially thank Kyle Pierce for taking over the travel plans for Team US when were going to be stranded in Guatemala. Kyle’s contacts, experience, and the fact that he had the only working phone in the country helped us get everyone out safe and sound. Thanks Kyle.

To all the athletes and coaches that I met on this trip new and old I want to thank you for your time, conversations, and hospitality I will never forget it.

Well that will wrap up this trip and now on to preparing for the next one.

Take Care from Coach Joe
