2011 Winter Grand Canyon State Games

Congrats to all the lifters whom participated in the 2011 Grand Canyon State Winter Games.  We had many new comers to this years event.  Three new women and eleven new men lifted for the first time in a USA Weightlifting Sanctioned Meet.  Best Lifter Awards went to Galye Shalloo for the Women and John Alvarado for the Men.  Both will receive free entry into the Grand Canyon State Summer Games and AZ State Championships.

In the Push Pull Competition we saw a small group of competitors but they lifted some big weights.  Masters’s Lifter Craig Wall Bench Pressed 160 kilos 352 pounds to win his Age and Weight Class.   August Schmidt Dead Lifted a small house with a 250 kilo attempt on his second attempt to win his weight class.  We are very excited with the turn out for this event.  The next event will be the Grand Canyon State Summer Games & AZ State Olympic Weightlifting Championships on June 30th at Chandler Gilbert Community College.  Info will be sent out soon for this event.  Thanks to all the volunteers, fans, and once again the athletes and coaches for making this event happen.  Take care till next time.

Ranger Boot Camp Kicked off with a Punch

Saturday’s Ranger Boot Camp Kicked off with a good group of participants.  After a briefing on the days activities the group gathered their gear and headed out for the 1/2 mile run to the Ranger Boot Camp Training Grounds.  Once there the group engaged in a series of Muscular Endurance Drills.  Running, Jumping, and Push Ups made up a considerable amount of this phase.  This provided a good warm up for the next phase, Strength Training.  Farmer walks, sled drags & pushes, along with Push Ups and Med Ball Slams & Tosses made up a large portion of this phase.  Many of them it the wall at this stage.  Good thing Lead Instructor Joseph Wheaton gave them a little break with Pull Ups, Bar Hangs, Flutter Kicks, and yes more push ups.  The group managed through only to grab their things and hit the road for the 1/2 mile run back to the Performance One Facility.  All in all the group handled the challenge well.  I can only tell them that it will get harder from here.  Good Luck next weekend!  For more information on Performance One’s Ranger Boot Camp call 480-813-5477
