Testimonial Tuesday

Testimonial Tuesday comes from our athlete, Missy who talks about Performance One Advanced Sports Training. She says, “This is a gym that not only encourages physical betterment, but mental fortitude as well. While the workouts are catered to your individual needs, you gain support from those around you, which helps you make strides in your physical condition. If you’d like to become not only fit, but an athlete, talk to Joe today.” Missy is a great athlete and we appreciate her feedback!

Two Committed to Compete at the Master’s Pan American Championships

Master’s Pan American Championships in Canada will see at least two Performance One Weightlifters Joel Scott Barnett and David Meltzer. Kaija Bramwell will compete at the Youth Pan Ams in May. Coach Micela has had athletes compete at both the Junior and Senior Pan Ams as well. If Kaija Bramwell wins a Medal at the Youth Pan American Championships Coach Micela will be the only Weightlifting Coach in Arizona to have a Medalist at every level of the Pan American Weightlifting Championships (Youth, Junior, Senior, & Master).

Performance One Female Weightlifters wins best Lifter Award

The Best Female Lifter at the AZ State Championships this year was Performance One’s very own Kaija Bramwell. Kaija won the 53 kilo Youth Weight Class. Kaija is also a Pan American Team Member that will compete next month in Lima, Peru. She is 16 years old and a Junior at Mountain View High School in Mesa. Coach Micela worked with her Father several years ago and helped him qualify for the American Open and Senior National Championships as a 69 kilo lifter.

Master’s Lifters Bring Home some Medals

We wanted to congratulate our Master’s Lifters whom competed over the past weekend at the Master’s National Weightlifting Championships in Shreveport, LA. They have all put in a lot of work and made many sacrifices this year.

In the 40-44 Age Division 62 kilo Class, Fred Martinez placed 3rd. Fred is coming back from a Knee Injury and has shown great improvement. Once he is back to 100% he will be able to contend for Gold once again. Fred lives in Anthem, Arizona and travels over an hour to train with Coach Joe Micela twice a week in his Mesa Facility.

Also in the same Age Division but in the 69 kilo class Joel Barnett went 6 for 6 with two competition Personal Records. The PRs came in the Clean & Jerk with 86 kilos and the Total with 160 kilos. Joel lives in Flagstaff, Arizona which is two and half hours away from Performance One. He comes down once a week to train with Coach Joe Micela.

Lastly, the Veteran of the Group, David Meltzer won the 105 kilo weight class and won best lifter for his Age Division 60-64 year olds.

The Master’s Division is growing every year with more and more talented older lifters. With the proper training and approach to Weightlifting many athletes can have very long careers.Best Lifter Award, M60-2
