Throwback Thursday: Legendary Powerlifter Jerry Irvine


In this picture is USPF Legendary Powerlifter Jerry Irvine. Jerry still holds the 40-44 year age division Dead Lift Record with 771 lbs. His name is on the American Record Board along side Fred “Dr. Squat” Hatfield.

Also in this picture is a young Olympic Weightlifter and recent Lindenwood University Student-Athlete Blake Edwards. Coach Joe and Jerry used to have many conversations about Strength Training and discussed the similarities and differences between the sport of Weightlifting and Powerlifting.

Unfortunately, Jerry passed away several years ago after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. His memory and spirit will always live on at the Performance One Gym.

Throwback Thursday 1/22/15

Back in 2008 Coach Micela received the Developmental Coach of the Year Award for Weightlifting. This award is given to the Coach that has demonstrated the ability to recruit, develop, and succeed at both the National and International level. That year he developed two athletes to the Junior World Weightlifting Championships and one of them finished won a silver medal, the highest of any team member that year. Over the years Coach Micela has risen as one of most successful Weightlifting Coaches in America. He went on to be the Head Coach of the Pan American, World, and Olympic Weightlifting Women’s Teams. Congrats Coach Joe!
